Course Description

Dr. Nathan Tanners Teachings with the assistance of Airway Center colleagues brings over a decade of experience studying, developing, and teaching airway-centered orthodontic concepts, helping guide colleagues in treatment philosophies beyond traditional extraction and retractive methods. With a focus on early intervention, functional appliances, and natural jaw development, this session will highlight practical strategies and clinical considerations intended to support patient outcomes, expand treatment possibilities, and help elevate practices interested in airway-focused care.

Target Audience: Dentists and Dental Teams

Learning Objectives

  • Correct and guide an optimal environment for normal occlusal development in the all primary, mixed or permanent dentition.

  • Identify, correct and guide a developing malocclusion to a normal occlusion in the all primary dentition ages 2-5, mixed dentition or permanent dentition.

  • Understand the earliest times that intervention is possible to support healthy craniofacial development.

  • Perform orthodontic screening on patients starting as early as age 2 and gain competence in delivering a Tanner Airway Appliance at any age.

  • Explain why early intervention of adverse dental, skeletal, or soft tissue relationships may be preferable to delayed treatment which often require greater effort in the future.

Meet the Founder of the Airway Center

Dr. Nathan Tanner

Dr. Tanner graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and pursued his dental education at Oregon Health and Science University, completing his degree in 2007.

His journey into airway orthodontics began in 2010. Initially focusing on adult sleep apnea appliances, he expanded his practice to treat younger children, recognizing the importance of early intervention. In 2014, he became one of the first Myobrace certified providers in the United States.

Dr. Tanner participated in numerous training programs, including a General Orthodontics Residency study club focusing on Airway Orthodontics and Neuromuscular Dentistry, an Orthotropics mini-residency on airway and early jaw development, and training on ALF/Crozat with the American Academy of Gnathological Orthodontics.

His passion eventually led him to build a system centered on airway health and jaw development, and in 2020 he founded the Airway Center. Today, rather than serving as the treating clinician in this area, Dr. Tanner focuses on teaching, mentoring, and supporting other doctors, while continuing to lecture on the importance of airway health and expanded treatment options for patients.
